...you practice class III skills on class II rivers.
you can get down the lower Green and the Tuck or you can work and build skills all the way down.
At the lower G - you can spend a long time at Fishtop surfing, ferrying, peeling out at the bottom of the last drop coming down from the narrows. Flip over in the main flow there and practice moving water rolls or just stay out of the current and practice rolls in the pool. Catch every eddy and micro-eddy along the way and play at the rapid before the bridge, at Little Corky and the play wave.
The Tuck has at least half a dozen spots that you can work on all of the same things. After probably a couple dozen trips, I just found out a few weeks ago that there's a great spot to practice moving water rolls right below 2nd hole. And there's good current flowing along in front of the jump rock where it's good and deep and that's another great place to flip and roll on purpose. 1st hole is a pretty friendly place to get flipped too (at least I don't think I've ever seen anybody take a hit there).
I'm like Sammy in that I'm in no big hurry to work my way up the ladder - the rivers will all be there waiting for me when I'm ready for them. Just have fun and work (or play) your way down whatever you're on and you'll probably find FB9 much easier the next time.
Good luck.
