..due to thin lines of defense and exhausted men. Remember; in Guadalcanal, the men were dropped
off at the beach with 2 weeks of supplies. they were relying on captured stores for survival. Supplies
weren't brought in until the late Oct/ early Nov time frame. malaria, dungue fever, dysentary, non-stop
combat, starvation all had a role.
For men to reveal their positions before the main assault came, meant even wider gaps between the
men and bigger avenues for infiltration. The Japanese sent the probes in to find where the men were,
so they could be eliminated before the main assault.
but you also certainly carry the implication that no lessons were learned from Guadalcanal, which
is untrue and unfair. And they DID use small unit tactics with great effectiveness. Carlson's patrol
for example.
