A pal of our, Chris Totten of Fluid Adventures (a big shout out to Chris!) lent us some boats, paddles, PFD's, helmets and drytops. Ellis of NRS outfitted the kids in head to toe neoprene. I've been working on getting gear donations.
We had to cough up money for the pools, but we've all pitched in. And I was unemployed for 18 months...and am the poorest person I know not actually eating out of a dumpster. It can be done.
Believe in yourself and your program. You don't necessarily need grants. RP and I started a whitewater festival with $2k and grew it into one of the most monetarily successful whitewater events in America. It can be done.
Start small. Think small...and build up. Beg and borrow gear. They don't have to have the newest, shiniest gear. I personally learned to boat 20 years ago in a shitty borrowed boat and gear that was way too big for me....and I'm still at it.
Good luck to you! Jules |
