lately thay have been releasing 6am-10am, a hard one to catch, especially since the sun doesnt really get into the gorge til about 11am...it's light enough to do it, but very cold. when i paddled there on the 1st, i got there around 8am and was on the water by 10, they were releasing all day that day. it was a cold start, but after i got going, it wasn't any worse than other experience that i've had on the Nanty. they were relesing big that day, bigger than the flows i saw there in the summer.
you can check for their release schedule 3 days in advanced here (bottom of the page): http://www.nantahalapower.com/lakes/generation/
during the spring and summer, you can always catch a shuttle from the NOC, very cheap and convienent. during the winter, they run shuttle only for special bookings...and you may or may not be able to hitch a ride during the winter..apart from my group, i only saw 2 other groups paddling there last weekend.
good luck and safe travels! |
