When you are swimming next to a flipped or righted raft, its easier to grab onto a circular rope that is tight than trying to grab onto a flat webbing sitting flat tight against your tubes. I have had a lot of personal experience having to grab-onto lines, and rope is a lot easier..! Also avoide Strap type stuff. It really cuts into your hand.

I would also suggest (from personal experience) you cross-loop through each D-ring, except the ones on the back side you guide off.
Reason for this is to give each section between D rings enough tension, so in case you need to tie anything off on the rope, each section has tension. for example, if for any reason you need to unwrap your boat and can only tie off on the chicken line or need to strap down gear etc. Basically when D-rings are not used.
I hope I am making sence..! Its Friday..HELP!!

When I have unwrapped boats (done my fair share) I always loop through 2 D-rings or the rope between 2 D-rings. I actually preffer to go compleatly around the tube, when possibe.

D-rings tend to come off before your rope or strap breaks (ask Mirage)

Sorry for rambling on and on, but its just things that come up once in a blue moon and realy the chicken line is one of the most important safety features of your raft.

good luck.
