so I'm betting you probably know more than I do. But hasn't stopped me from flapping my soup coolers before...plus it helps me learn
Could it be a rocker issue? I don't know the specific boat you're talking about so I can't really answer my own question. But my brain is saying if you want to increase speed, then you need more waterline. If the boat has a more pronounced rocker than your previous rides, then the speed difference may really be coming through to you.
Loading the boat heavier may help flatten out the rocker, concentrating weight on the ends, but that sucks to have to lug all the extra crap around. What if you moved your rowing stance forward just a bit? Making the boat a little nose heavy but getting the weight forward of the apex of the rocker, thus more of the front of the boat in water, giving just a little edge to the speed department while also adding inertia to the bow for punching things? Of course the back end will be squirrly but my theory is that it'll float over the hydraulics and not really be an issue
I'm talking out my ass here and my ignorance may be showing. But like I said..if someone calls me on it, then I've learned something
