You can repair it with some aquaseal, a fabric patch (optional), some sticker backing (the paper backing that stickers are attached to), talcum powder, masking tape, and a couple of phone books.
Start by taping the paper sticker backing with the sticker side facing the hole on the inside of the dry bag.
Place the bag on one of the phone books with the hole facing up (you should be able to see the paper backing through the hole. Spread the Aquaseal on the paper backing and onto the dry bag so that the total size is about the size a silver dollar. (At this time you can add a fabric patch if you want to. If you do, make sure you put some aquaseal on the patch to cover the edges.) Place another piece of the paper backing over this with the sticker side facing the hole. Make sure the paper backing is large enough for any run off of aquaseal. Place the other phone book over the work area. Let stand at least 12 hours. Remove the books, and paper and apply talcum powder to both the inside and outside.
The repair is now stronger than the fabric. I've done this to nylon tent bags, tent rainflys, and nylon dry bags, with the largest hole being the size of a quarter, without any failing. Mark |
