I have had the chance to talk to Tom a time or two and one thing that stands out in my mind is that I've never heard Tom asking people to "spread the word".  In fact, it's just the opposite.  The man hardly advertises and the one advertisment he does is a bit of a spoof (hint: careful who you ask for).  More times than not there is a waiting list for his boats.  I know last summer he had some inventory built up but I heard that was gone by end of summer.

I've been to his shop.  It's a very simple affair.  He lives a simple life.  I think as long as he can make enough to live on, he's happy.  If he started spreading the word and such, the demand may overwhelm his ability to supply to the point where it's not fun anymore.

So while most of us see his boat as cash in the bank and it boggles our mind why he doesn't do more producing, I think Tom is happy being Tom and doing the business that he is.  Personally, I'm glad to see a company not selling out to the masses and he's keeping it real as much as he can.

That "raftshredder race" in Vail doesn't even have a pic of a Shredder on it's race advertisment...what's up with that?  Are they using real Shredders or knock offs?
