I've got a 16' raft and a 4-bay frame ( box, box, cockpit, cooler). The oarlocks end up about 2/3 of the way back along the frame. The boat handles well, and I've got no complaints in technical or big water. Last fall in the Grand, every other raft we saw was set up with the oarlocks centered. No-one had a good explanation other than "that's how its always been." This board seems like a place to get a good answer.
Is there an advantage to running the oarlocks centered on a raft?
If there is, does it make enough difference to re-arrange my frame to move the oarlocks and cockpit 2 feet forward?
Thanks!
