You may have that backwards -the Otter is made of a thinner hypalon than the E. Everything I hear says the Otter is plenty up to snuff for most private rafters needs. The Expeditions are designed for rigorous use required by outfitters.  I have a NRS "Sprite" which has got to be 20 years old. It is the 12' equivalent of what is now their E series. It will probably go another 20 years. That being said, I got it used at a real good price, but  buying new I would go for the Otter because I don't need a raft that will last 40 years...save the extra $$$
