If your under the illusion that we are safer in the surf than others remember a board/kayak/shark suit no matter what you are riding or wearing your no match for one ton of razor teeth hitting you at 25+ mph(40kmh)  

More or less it is a car wreck with teeth that in a single bite of 40,000 lbs per square inch can crush through a surf board, kayak,tendons flesh and bone in a single taste..

If anything, because of all the attachments to the craft, rolling over and having your whole upper body exposed and thrashing around and such, we might be in more peril if an attack was to occur.. keep it in mind before you get complacent and feel safer.
