Re: note Suggestions for lodging and surf spots near Sayulita and thereabouts? <NT> robcaseyphoto New

Hey Rob,

We flew into Puerto Vallarta, hired a taxi van to drive us and surfboards to Sayulita. The town is great. Lots of lodging, dining, shopping options. The main surf break is a crowded right and was pretty small when we were there. The locals are friendly but they drop in on you (with a smile) and take precedence over the tourists. The good thing is that the locals don't get into the water until 10 or 11 AM so we had great dawn patrols while there.  We hired a van one day to take us around Punta Mita to a break called La Launcha (also look up Burros near La Launcha) which had a little more size. The take-off spot at La Launcha was a submerged rock that  you sit right next to. I have a nice memory scar on my wrist from that break. Overall, the town has very friendly eager-to-sell you goods locals, and apparently low crime. The cost of stuff is about the same as it is in the states. Also, be prepared for unclean drinking water, disposing of your used toilet paper in a garbage can, and questionable seawater quality. Montezuma had a stranglehold on me for two days while there.

I'll send you a link to some photos from our trip if you're interested.

This website was a very helpful resource in renting a house, getting restaurant reviews, the local scene, etc. Check out the forum too.
