In my clan's experience, Westport is notorious for falling apart when the swell direction is southwest. Onshore winds are almost always associated with a SW swell. La Push handles a southwest swell (and wind) mo' bettah but be prepared for larger waves if the period is high (>12 sec). I 'm with you on the gas prices, the Westport and La Push webcams can be a real wallet saver if you're unsure whether to make the trip.
