Vince has done an amazing job with the Reaction.  My wife Kate tried it for a weekend and loved it(She is getting one).  The boat is amazingly fast down the line, and turns very well.
Mike Johnson and Vince also did an excellent job with the aquarius.  Fast and maneuverable.  The boat performs very well on steep waves and flat waves the same.  I don't believe that it has the "Up the Face Drive" that the Reaction has.
But there are many other boats out there that amazingly fast and turn well all the same.  One is the Mustang(another Vince and Randy concept, are you seeing a trend here),  which can take a super steep drop and has great speed.  One other boat is the Fury, which seems to be the boat of choice, right now, for the guys getting aerials.  And Malcolm has a new boat out that looks really good.  Can't wait to try one.
One thing to think about is how deep are you willing to catch a wave.  It might be good to have a boat that has good paddle out and onto the wave speed as well.  Some people do not like to put themselves at the deepest part of the wave, so being able to paddle onto the wave from the shoulder and have enough planing speed to catch it is important.
Another thing to think about is weight.  Unless you are an incredibly muscular person, having a boat that is over 20lbs is ridiculous.  This is the surf, not whitewater.
As I tell any one looking for a kayak, DEMO.  If you are going to spend the money take the time to demo some boats.  It's always fun.
For the money and performance though you can't beat the Reaction.  $1500 for a 17lb boat that is BOMBPROOF is an amazing deal.
