And would have loved to go to the OBJ race as well. But, given the fact that I got married last weekend, I live in Fort Collins, and I don't want to pay $200+ for a weekend of boating when there's boating near me I didn't go. Most of that also applies to the good boaters that I know on the front range. There are so many good class 5 boaters in this area that don't compete. Why should they? They are not sponsored, don't care about racing against people that paddle 300 days/year when they just got in their boats a month or two ago, and it's damn expensive to do so.
Most of the guys that I know, that are very good boaters, don't get their jollies off to compete. Take the Lyons Outdoor Games. This year I don't think any of the Fort Collins class 5 boaters went to race on South Saint Vrain and it's 45 mins from where we all live. I didn't go either.. I decided to spend the night on the Poudre and do 2 days of creeking with my hommies instead of watching Tao thump his chest some more. :)
