Personal info: Yes, another Texan is a member of this list. I'm a native Texan on top of that. I'd like to get that out of the way right now. I paddle whitewater because it's available, I love it and it's something totally different from the legends about Texans riding horses and shooting 6-guns at anything that moves. Seriously, all of the other stuff I was doing just wasn't fun anymore. Paddling is something I began when I got out of high school. I started paddling again after a change in lifestyle, re-learned river canoeing, then switched to kayaking and haven't looked back. I've been to a lot of the 'local' rivers and creeks and now I'm looking for bigger water that just isn't here.  My current play spot is Rio Vista which is a doable 3 hour drive from home and always has enough water to work on tricks and technique during the 'off season'. If you ever get sent to Houston, drop a line and I'll find some water that isn't so vertically challenged.
