Personal info: I used to hike and backpack quite a bit when I first starting getting into the outdoors. It always seemed that I would gravitate towards hiking trails that followed along rivers and creeks. I would often times see kayakers out on the water while I was hiking, and I grew interested in these brightly colored plastic boats. I figured that kayakers could go places and see things that I would never be able to get to on foot. Curiosity finally got the better of me, so in the early part of 2000, I broke down and bought my first boat, a Perception Overflow-X. I took some roll classes at the local Y, and signed up for a beginner clinic on the Obed, and was quickly bitten by the whitewater bug. Although, I do not get out nearly as much as I would like due to family and work commitments, paddling is always on my mind. I am most comfortable on big water runs such as the New and the Gauley, but I would like to start creeking this fall, or next spring. My goal is to simply get out to paddle more often and to see where things go from there.
