I am diabetic ('98) and have arthritis in my knees. Started kayaking for exercise ('99). Fell in love with the sport. Suffered a stroke in December of '01. Recovered fully.

Do mostly flat water locally, two to three times per week, 4-8 miles, in the Dagger (touring kayak) Cortez. Fishing, exploring, and camping in the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pros. Picked up the RPM Max in '01 to learn white water. Took a ww class in August of '02. I have a solid onside roll and a partial off side roll. I don't bend well to the right - back surgery

I have been teaching Red Cross kayaking to boy scouts and parents since '00. We use "old school boats" to teach the basics of strokes and boat control. We introduce the roll. The Spring and Fall classes average about twenty participants each.

In the troop, the first white water kayaking class was the Summer of '03 from early June through early August. We traveled to Hidalgo Falls in late July and the San Marcos/Blanco Rivers in early August. Currently I have a fleet of Pirouettes and Pirouette S's and other older, cheaper, kayaks. Got some good bargins on Animas, Redline, Infrared, Centrifuges, Ultrafuge, Ego and Super Ego as well. If it is real cheap and the buyer can ship, I am always buying boats

Not much white water in the flat Gulf coast of Texas, we are 150 feet above sea level. It is an 1 1/2 hours to Hidalgo Falls - Class II, III when the water level is way up, 3 hours to the San Marcos/Blanco and the Guadalupe Rivers - class II, 4 hours to Mustang Island - when the surf is up, and 6-7 hours to the Lake Amistad and Devils River.

Got my son (G-force) and daughter (Infared) into ww boating too. My son helps out with the Red Cross Kayaking Class.

Safe Paddling

Peter
